PRAYER AND FASTING WEEK
JANUARY 28 TO FEBRUARY 3
OPEN UP THE HEAVENS
is the theme of January 2018 prayer and fasting week. Every year we set aside two weeks, one in January and one in August to seek God in prayer and fasting to express our eagerness and sincerity to Jesus Christ as the primary center of our lives.

I invite you to participate fully in prayer and fasting and set aside extra time for prayer. If you wish to know more about the different ways to fast, see the TYPES OF FASTS below.

Use the simple devotional and prayer guide on the right (right-click on the photo on the right to download the simple Guide). This week, we won’t have a DGroup Guide. Instead, using the Bible verses of the day (whichever day your DGroup meets) on the prayer guide, we encourage you to use S.O.A.P.  (SCRIPTURE, OBSERVATION, APPLICATION, PRAYER) as your Bible study.

If you want to know more about how to use S.O.A.P. Bible study, read the guide below.

Let’s believe that the best is yet to come!

TYPES OF FASTS
HOW TO USE S.O.A.P.
S
The S stands for Scripture.  You physically write out the scripture on your journal, and read it.
You’ll be amazed that what God will reveal to you just by taking the time to slow down and actually write out what you are reading!
O
The O stands for observation.
What do you see in the verses that you’re reading?
Who wrote it and why?
Who is the audience?
Is there a repetition of words?
What words stand out to you?
A
The A stands for Application. This is when God’s Word becomes personal.
What lessons can I learn?
What is God saying to me today?
How can I apply what I just read to my own personal life?
What changes do I need to make?
Is there an action that I need to take?
P
And finally P stands for Prayer. Pray God’s Word back to Him.
If He has revealed something to you during this time in His Word, pray about it.
Confess if He has revealed some sin that is in your life.
Write your prayer down.
